Can hazard warning flasher sold at auto zone for a 2002 olds alero be replaced seperately?
Q. Auto zone sells a hazard warning flasher for a 2002 olds alero. Price is around nine dollars. According to a repair manual the flasher can not be replaced on this model and year. Instead entire flasher switch must be replaced. Is this true or can I replace hazard flasher only?

A. the flasher on your olds always goes bad. there is no recall, but if you find the right dealer that works on oldsmobiles, they may replace it at no charge if you have less than 150,000 mi

How do I disconnect hazard warning flasher on a 2002 olds alero?
Q. I have a 2002 olds alero and I need to replace the hazard warning flasher located insider the dash. I can easily remove the dash trim and reach the flasher, but I cant get it disconnected. Is there a way I can remove it without doing damage. Or should I just take it to dealer and let them do it. If so, how much do you think it will cost to fix?

A. Look for any kind of plug retainer on the one in the car. Also look for a catch on the replacement. That said, I have never run across one that had a retainer. Usually its just a tight fit. Very gently, put the tip of a screw driver or butter knife between the the connector and the flasher and pry. Here comes the obligatory disclaimer. The potential, no matter how small exists that you may inadvertantly short out the circuit, by grounding out what you're prying with.

What can help my hazard and perception on the road?
Q. I'm doing my motorcycle test soon and i need some tips on my hazard and perception on the road... I've done some rider training with a professional already. Every thing else seems perfect and done i've my theory and mod 1, but i need some help with dealing with hazards in good time and in the right way for my test.

A. I agree with mick49 but also, pay attention to road warning signs, and adjust yourself accordingly. also be aware passing junctions, i have seen elderly biddies look right at me and pull out anyway. treat all other road users as idiots and be prepared for their mistakes. remember your 'life savers' as this helps to tell other road users you are going to pull out. riding a motorcycle takes a lot more concentration than driving a car. your out in the elements and you need to know everything thats going on around you and everything thats coming up. but dont be put off you will get used to it. be confident and alert. good luck.

Is asphalt dirt considered a hazard if it's used to level off the backyard?
Q. Several years ago my husband witnessed the dumping of truckloads of asphalt dirt in our neighbor's backyard. These were huge chunks of asphalt. Then the owner covered it with clean dirt so no one would see the asphalt dirt beneath it. The owner of the property used the asphalt dirt to level off his backyard and raise it a bit more since the property has some low spots. My husband don't have any recollection of the removal of the asphalt dirt. Right now, the property is for sale and I don't believe the realtor is aware of the asphalt soil in the backyard. Is this considered a hazard? a soil contamination? an environmental violation? Keep in mind this is a residential property. If in fact proven that the presence of asphalt is still in the… [cont.]

A. You would probably not be bothered by the asphalt, the tar in it is stabilized. You could check with the EPA. If it was determined to be a hazard, then whoever had it put there would be required to facilitate the cleanup.

Is there a state to state comparison for laws governing use of hazard flashers while driving?
Q. I live in Florida, and we have a ludricous law here that does not allow people to use their flashers while driving during heavy rain. I know someone who received a ticket for this law, and a Florida judge threw it out. In fact, the judge used the phrase, "ludicrious law". I'm trying to get a comparison on all 50 states' laws on hazard flashers.
Asked by Glen - Thu Sep 3 10:00:24 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There is no comparison that I'm aware of other than going to each state dmv and looking up the law. It's not necessarily ludicrous when you see so many people driving with their hazards on at the strangest times. The only time you are supposed to use your Hazard flashers is when YOU present a potential hazard to others such as if you are travelling more than 15% below the posted limit or your vehicle is broken down. If you use them to be more visible in inclement weather then you might cause someone to misread your intentions and make an unsafe manoevre.

How can extension cords be a fire hazard?
Q. If an extension cord is plugged into a surge protector then into the wall, and it is less than 6 ft long, is that still considered a fire hazard? Also, how exactly can the fire be started? Both the surge protector and the cord are grounded.
Asked by Jeremy L - Wed Aug 29 22:11:19 2007 - - 14 Answers - 0 Comments

A. current draw produces heat. a hot cord can start a fire. many dimwits use them for air conditioners and large draw items, and they are sure to get hot. end of story.

How to change hazard switch in 2000 Audi A6?
Q. I need to replace my hazard switch on my 2000 A6. How does the plastic piece covering it come off without damage. Does it pop off or do the cup holder and card holder need to come off first. If so how do those come off?

A. It would most likely be risky to do this task by yourself. I recommend you take your vehicle to an Audi dealer, and they should replace your hazard switch at little or no cost!

What is a type of lamp that is brighter than a halogen lamp, but isn't a fire hazard?
Q. I need a bright lamp for setting up photo shots (I'm an architecture major). However, the one I have isn't powerful enough, and halogen lamps are banned at my apartment (fire hazard). Is there a safer, less potentially dangerous type of lamp that I can buy? Thanks.
Asked by Marco L - Tue Oct 13 16:17:37 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Just get a bulb that has more wattage. If you go with fluorescent, you'll want to watch the kelvin temperature. The higher the brighter. I don't see how any apartment building can make a halogen lamp banned. If the light you are using it in is UL listed, they don't have a right. It's not like a dog!

Q. I am going for my theory and hazard perception test soon and am just wondering how are you supposed to study for the hazard perception ? I have a CD that gives some clips for examples, are these clips ALL the hazard perception clips or are they just examples ? Thanks, Danny
Asked by Anzath - Wed Jul 9 13:46:41 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The CD clips are just examples for you to understand the concept. But that is the only way to learn (and ofcourse common sense is imp.) Tips: Click when ever you see a hazard on the screen, It doesn't matter how many times you click. But don't cheat, if the software detects a pattern u will be scored zero. also click 2 times with a 1/2 sec gap, this coz if u r clicking too early you won't miss the point and you always get the highest score of the clicks that land on the points zone. All the best.
